September 2022: Library SPARK time
2nd-5th grade students freely utilizing library resources during their recess time. They may checkout books, meet in small groups, conduct research, read, utilize the L.A.V.A. Recording Studio stations (once trained), or participate in planned activities including virtual author visits. Available 11:15 to 1:00 daily.
September 15, 2022: International DOT day
After reading the book, The Dot, centered around the theme of creativity and encouragement, students created their own dot and used VR technology to "bring it to life". Peter H. Reynolds also hosted a 30-minute event on Dot Day that was broadcast on the Promethean board.
August 2022: Library ambassador training
Incoming 3rd-5th grade students submitted applications for this year's Student Library Ambassador Program. These students were selected for the program and attended training during their time off. What dedicated Tigers!
May 2022: Battle of the Books District Competition
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teams competed via Zoom due to COVID restrictions and limited transportation this year. 3rd grade took 1st place and 4th and 5th grade both took 3rd place in the district competition.
April 2022: 3rd-5th "invite a character to dinner" writing project
Students chose a book they had recently read and wrote a letter with at least three descriptive traits in a paragraph appropriate for their grade level informing their family of their guest. After editing was completed, student were given an opportunity to try and guess the character or book that the character originated from.
March 8, 2022: Visiting author, victoria jamieson
Victoria Jamieson visited all TW students and read from two of her books to students in grades PK-5. Students were also given an opportunity to create their own illustrations with her. She was a hit and our students learned a lot. Thank you to our PTA for making this opportunity possible!
January 2022: Bluebonnet club luncheon
Bluebonnet Club members voted in the statewide voting process to help choose this year's winning author. We celebrated their achievements with a special Bluebonnet luncheon.
December 2021
TW was again officially registered to participate in this worldwide event that is a one-hour introduction to computer science, using fun tutorials to show that anybody can learn the basics. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.
